RWN: Conservative Women on Dating

Posted by brian | Life,Politics | Monday 31 March 2008 12:01 pm

John Hawkins at Right Wing News has a great post on Conservative Women and Dating.  He interviewed six conservative women and shares the highlights in this piece.

First of all John, would it have killed you to find someone from Kentucky!?  Seriously, he rounded up a great group of girls.  Smart, attractive and conservative – the holy trinity.

What really made the piece were the questions and their answers.  They were very basic "I’ve always wanted to know that" kind of questions and the women were very candid.  Examples:  "What is the difference between dating liberals and conservatives."  Almost all of them had dated liberals, and it seemed like most had come to the conclusion that they wouldn’t anymore.  Their explanations were very enlightening.  "What do guys have wrong about women?" and "What do women have wrong about guys?"  Again, a gold mine of interesting commentary.

Who knows, maybe there is hope for me yet …

Madness: Week 2 Roundup

Posted by brian | Sports | Monday 31 March 2008 8:54 am

And the winner of this year’s Bracket Pick’em … the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee!  All the #1′s advance to San Antonio.  I was amazed that they all survived to the Elite Eight.  The good thing about this … next year a bunch of people will be picking all the #1 seeds.

To me the big surprise of the week was the bottom dropping out of the Big 10.  It’s not just that Michigan State (Memphis) and Wisconsin (Davidson) lost.  They had their doors blow off.

I was totally wrong on Memphis and Xavier.  Xavier finally lost Saturday, but I was scoffing at their 3-seed and they pretty much lived up to it.  And Memphis! (more…)

Obama’s Latest Excuse

Posted by brian | Politics | Friday 28 March 2008 11:34 am

You need a scorecard to keep up with this stuff.

The "I didn’t know" excuse having not extinguished the flames, Obama moved on to Rev Wright Excuse 2.0:  he would not have been comfortable in the church if Rev Wright had not resigned.

Never mind that "would have – if" is the universal joint of excuse structure, how could you be made uncomfortable by something you aren’t aware of (according to Excuse 1.0).  And here again, shame on the media for not holding every pol’s feet to the fire on this.  You can’t just keep trying excuses until you find one that works.  More basically, you can’t "un-say" things.

Today’s passive-agressive note is worth checking out, but not for the faint-hearted.  Also, maybe not during lunch.

Note on Project “Twitter is Lame”

Posted by brian | Life | Friday 28 March 2008 8:28 am

Some of my posts for Project TIL were staged for effect.  For example, I didn’t really pull lint out of my navel or operate a cell phone while pumping gas.  Dixie and Shelby however really did go #1 and #2 during that post.  I am merely trying illustrate all the fun and excitement of carrying out Twitter’s mission of documenting one’s every move for the world.

Yes, I did see the MythBusters where they disproved the cell phone / gas pump thing.  I also saw something where a window-washer fell from the 23rd floor of a skyscraper and survived.  I choose to play it safe.  Something tells me that flaunting the man’s rules and texting at a gas pump would hardly be a critical component in my strategy to suck the marrow out of life.

Dems Short-Sighted Thinking on Full Display

Posted by brian | Politics | Friday 28 March 2008 8:10 am

You know, we should all be taking a lesson from the current circus that is the Democratic Primary campaign.  There is no better example of that party’s inability to consider a decision’s long-term consequences than the Super-Delegate.

In this saga’s latest exchange, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly called for Super-Delegates to follow the will of the voters and Hillary Clinton supporters have responded by threatening to cut off their significant funding of House Democrat campaigns.

On the one hand, the angst of Pelosi and other Democratic Party leaders is understandable.  Clinton’s "when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers" strategy threatens to damage the party.  On the other, all Clinton is doing is suggesting that she will seek to have the Super-Delegates do what they were created to do

The Decline of the Greeting Card

Posted by brian | Life | Thursday 27 March 2008 10:51 pm

I believe that our society’s absolute lack of imagination and creativity is reflected in the racks upon racks of greeting cards that can be found in pharmacies, discount retailers, and convenience stores everywhere.

To be fair, this situation has always been grim.  In my entire life I can’t remember a time when picking out a greeting card wasn’t an excruciating experience.  You pick up a card.  It is supremely stupid – the kind of card that might inspire the recipient to disown the giver.  So you put it back and move on, right?

Not me.  I mean, think about it.  Think about what it took to put this greeting turd in play.  First someone conceived the idea.  But how many other people had to sign off to convert the soul-less concept into a consumer product.  And then they put a price on it and expect us to continue the ruse.

What Barack Learned Today …

Posted by brian | Politics,Satire | Thursday 27 March 2008 7:50 am

Apparently, in 1969, for the first time in History, a man, American Neil Armstrong, walked on the moon.  Obama was heretofore unaware of this as he wasn’t there (on the moon) at the time.

On This Day in History …

After consulting with Hillary Clinton (who was under heavy sniper fire at the time, I think … who can remember things like that, what with all the minutes in a day), President George Washington and the Congress authorized the formation of the US Navy.

A quote from Bob Novack’s notes on McCain in today’s online column:

He is being advised to lay off the "straight talk," such as admitting that he does not know much about the economy.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure if that kind of thing was supposed to fall under the umbrella of "Straight Talk" or cooperating with the Democrats.  Heck, if you feel weak on Economics just take the Hillary approach and talk about how you single-handedly helped America recover from the mess after "Black Monday."
